ISN’T ALL WINE VEGAN?
Wine is fermented grape juice, so it’s vegan, right? The answer, surprisingly, is not necessarily.
After fermentation, winemakers employ a process called fining which removes microscopic particles called colloids from the wine. While not harmful, these particles can affect the aroma, taste and appearance of the wine. Fining removes the colloids by introducing fining agents to the wine which bind to the colloids to make them large enough to be filtered out. It’s these fining agents that can make the wine non-vegan.
Typical fining agents include casein (milk protein), albumin (egg whites), gelatin (animal protein) and isinglass (fish bladder), all of which are animal-derived and make the wine unacceptable for vegans. Vegania replaces these animal-derived ingredients with plant-based options, with zero compromise to taste and quality, making the wine suitable for vegans.
SO HOW DO I KNOW IF A WINE IS VEGAN?
Since fining agents are not usually identified on the wine label, identifying if a wine is vegan friendly can be difficult. This is why we created Vegania vegan friendly wines.
One look at the label and there is no doubt that Vegania is compatible with your plant-based lifestyle. No searching the web, contacting wineries or wondering, it’s right there in the name Vegania vegan friendly wine.
